Future of the Newsletter
Written by Purple Dragon

Hello all,

Well, it's that time of the month again. What time is that? The time when I start to think about putting the newsletter together of course. As any faithful reader will tell you I almost never actually get it done and released by now, but I start THINKING about it anyway.

I've been talking to the other staff members and we have decided that we will not be releasing an issue this month. In fact, we've decided that a little longer break than that might be in order. I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone that activity in the community has been a little light recently, and since one of the main purposes of the newsletter is to report on what is going on in the community it just doesn't make sense to me to keep trying to manufacture content.

I recently took a look at the past half dozen issues and what I found was that the amount of content in them is just about what I would like to have for two issues. Spreading it out over six months makes the issues a little thin to say the least, and to be honest, if I can't put out a good issue I'd rather not do it at all. I should also admit that part of the problem is that I and some of the other staff members are feeling a bit burned out. I've been editing the newsletter for about two and a half years now, and some of the other members have been involved for much longer than that so I think we might all benefit from a little break.

So, how long of a break are we talking about? That one's a bit hard to say with any certainty since so much of it depends on what happens in the community. Right now I'm thinking of something along the lines of a year. If we end up holding the Erins this year and the Mini-comp next year (good chance of the comp, but less certain of the Erins at this point) then you can probably expect at least one issue for each of those events, but other than that we'll just see what happens. In the interest of complete disclosure I suppose I should add that there is a slight possibility that this is the end of it for good, but I doubt it will come to that. At the very least, if we ever do decide to go that way I promise you a “Goodbye, Farewell, Amen” issue (reference anyone? That's an easy one :).

At any rate, rest assured that we aren't going anywhere. We will all still be around, and always willing to lend a hand if we can help. Thank you faithful readers for great few years, and we'll see ya when we see ya.

I've had a few problems getting the voting to work correctly. It seems to be okay now, but if you get any kind of error when voting, please let me know right away.

Also, since I have a game in the comp this year, I've asked A. Bomire to take over on collecting and tallying the votes. So thanks to him for picking up the ball there.

The file is called 2010_AIF Mini-comp.zip.

On the archive it is under "files - mini comps"

There were four games submitted this year. Certainly not our best participation, but good enough to go ahead with the voting. Voting will be up in a couple of days, and I'll post another message when it's ready.

Here are this year's games:

  • Entrancing Sin by Anonymous
  • Once Upon a Dream by Purple Dragon
  • Redskirt by Begferdeth
  • Sibling Seduction by LordYoni

Remember that this year is the first time we have lifted the "No talking during voting" rule, so feel free to discuss the games or ask for help if you wish.

Well, what are you waiting for. Download those games and get playing.
